CALIFORNIA AND TEXAS JOIN NATIONAL HOME SERVICE
CONTRACT ASSOCIATION

Growth of Trade Association to Benefit Consumers

(OLATHE, KS – January 1, 2011)

The National Home Service Contract Association (NHSCA) proudly announced today the addition of the Texas Home Service Contract Association (THSCA) and the California Home Service Contract Association (CHSCA) as members of its State Network.

These new state groups replace the functions formerly provided by the Texas Warranty Association (TWA) and the Home Warranty Association of California, (HWAC), which both  dissolved in favor of the NHSCA.  Collectively, the NHSCA and its state network members represent the premier and most respected providers of home service contracts in the country.

“Consumers in the states of Texas and California will benefit by the addition of these providers to our State Network,” Mark Celichowski, Home Security of America and president of NHSCA. “The NHSCA has a strong industry and legislative voice which means those purchasing or benefiting from a home service contract in Texas and California will be better served.”

Home service contracts generally provide service, repair or replacement for items such as dishwashers, ovens, disposers, electrical and plumbing systems - and most importantly, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC).* Many home service contract providers also offer a menu of optional items such as pool and spa equipment, well pumps, and free standing appliances such as refrigerators and clothing washers and dryers for an additional fee. Contracts do not cover pre-existing conditions, but will provide service, repair or replacement for failures arising due to normal wear and tear during the contract period.

Home service contract providers are regulated in all fifty states under applicable consumer protection laws and are specifically licensed or registered in nearly half the states. They are not contracts of insurance in any state as they cover break down due to normal wear and tear. By comparison, insurance polices cover fortuitous events such as fire, collision, windstorm, theft, vandalism or accident and never cover service, repair or replacement when household appliances or systems simply break down. Home service contracts are highly recommended by real estate brokers and differ substantially from retail goods  “extended warranties”.
